I think most chain breakage happens because the chain stretches so long that it hits the housing. Every second timing belt replacement I also change the chain, but I would feel safer if there were more space between the chain and the sealing housing. To test this remove the vacuum line from the EGR and block it with a screw. If the car works normally going uphill above 2500rpm and without power loss then you have the same problem.
