Wunderbar! But did you upgrade the rear suspension/springs/shocks? I am in discussion with Koni NL to see if they can make us some FSD for the 1.2 TDI A2. Please see the thread MfG -

Also 1,2 TDI-Besitzer - Haben Sie Interesse an TuV genehmigt Dämpfer aus KONI? Vielen Dank PS: Audi Driver Zeitung (Englisch) Mar 2008 - A2 1.2TDI -

Dear German Speaking Friends, My A2 1.2 TDi is having turbo problems after 84000 miles. No power - We checked the air mass meter and EGR and pipes. The problem is the Garrett VTG (part nr. Audi 045145701E Garrett: 700960-0001/2/5/8/11 ) The build up of exhaust soot causes the VTG to jam and then the Engine managemnet reduces the boost to the engine. Anyone else with 1.2 TDi had to change the turbolader?

Has anyone considered fitting another VW/Audi gearbox from maybe a Lupo/Polo with clutch and manual change for the 1.2 TDI? A 6 speed would be wunderschoen! -

Guter Tag zu dir Enthusiasten des Gefährte A2! Has anyone had a gearbox type whine / final drive noise with their A2 1.2 TDI? It sounds the same in all gears. Also how do you check the level/fill the gearbox oil and what type of fluid is used? Hypoid? Synthetic? Besten Dank

Have a look here: 1,2er: Betroffene mit Getriebeproblemen und Fragen (nicht Kupplung!) I had a very similar problem and the answer was a simple electronic switch: Under the gear stick - "Shift lever gate recognition switch - J257" Part numbers: 8Z0 971 697, 026 133 557 and 085 907 385. MfG

Vielen Dank Herbert As far as i can tell there is no noise in E mode at 100km/h with feet off the pedals. But as soon as brake or accelerator pedal is used then noise returns. But at this speed it is harder to tell because of engine and wind noise. MfG

Getriebewellekeil zur Nabe Verbindung / Driveshaft spline to hub joint

Einen Blick hier haben: 1.2 TDI - Krach! - Noise like ABS Besten Dank -
Today i disconnected the ABS sensor on the drivers side only. Of course the DIS gave Brake warning light but brakes still work mechanically! Same noise as before.
-
I understand that some early A2 cars had problems with the driveshaft splines at the wheel end. Perhaps this is the answer to my 1.2 TDI noises?
-
The noise is at it's worst as follows: In +/- mode: 5 and 4th gear: 1200 to 1400rpm 3rd: 1000 rpm 2nd: 900 rpm 1st: 800 rpm it only occurs when accelerator pedal or brake pedal pressed (even slightly) and when steering gerade aus or rechts. it is a deep noise like ABS but fast repetition. In E mode rolling (feet off pedals) there is no noise. Seems to be on driver's side at the front - torque related. Thought is was brakes, ABS, CV joints, gearbox, exhaust pipe, engine mounts, suspension mounts, springs, wheel bearings. Only changed brakes and checked springs and exhaust so far. The car also has brand new tyres fitted from Bridgestone on 13 March 2007.
-
Auspuff / exhaust also seems clear of the bodywork and gangstgeller is shown here:
-
Springs look OK - has anyone with 1.2 TDI had broken ones?
-
Driving with new brakes in snow yesterday the ABS functions but the action seems quite slow - clonk clonk clonk and car stops OK. But the original noise remains!!!! Maybe a sensor fault? Parts: 6E0 927 803 B and 804B Car has done 78954 miles (128t km)
-
But here are the old ones - note the marks caused by the pads and the cracks and disintegration of the part worn pads - too much heat? faulty ABS or just normal 1.2 TDI situation?
-
OK, new brake discs and pads now fitted to front:

Guten Tag, Tut Mir leid aber mein deutsch ist nicht so gut. I have a 06/2001 Audi A2 1.2 TDI and have driven her since 10/2002. Previous owner was Autohaus Eppstein Dauborn. The erratic gearchange issue happened in Jan 2004 and got slowly worse. In fact several times it was dangerous. Going uphill in E mode with cars too close behind when she selects N and the car slows quickly - this scares the drivers behind! Another time the car was stranded across a road in the fog - a motorcyclist only just missed the car when I had to switch off and re-start to get out of his way! I heard another tale in Germany of a 1.2 TDi being stranded on a railway crossing with the same issue. No problems in +/- tiptronic mode - only E and D modes. The Audi dealer in Nottingham was very helpful as were the German 3L Lupo forum. We did the basic reset many many times! Eventually the problem was found to be a small electronic switich just under the gear stick - "Shift lever gate recognition switch - J257" Part numbers: 8Z0 971 697, 026 133 557 and 085 907 385. Then in May 2006 the hydraulic fluid and "gangsteller" problem occured. This time we tried just topping up the fluid and this worked Ok for a few days but it would run out and leave the caar in one gear and with no manual clutch it could be very dangerous when coming to junctions or roundabouts. The car would just stay in gear - like 3rd or 4th - putting on the brakes would make her engine stall very abruptly - very bad for clutch and transmission and in bsuy traffic. Wait some minutes, restart and hope for the best. The problem was the hydraulic pipes going into the gangsteller. They move around when the small clip breaks (part number V085 142 419). This creates wear on the aluminium pipe connectors and then fluid loss. New tubes and new clip plus fresh fluid and all was well again. Tubes are : V085 142 417 B and V 085 142 418 B. Now I have strange deep rumble noises when driving straight or turning right - thought it was warped brake discs or ABS fault. Changed discs again but noise is still there. Other issues: Big oil leak from main bearing seal on camshaft side 2002 (warranty replaced in Schwelm Germany). Cigar lighter fault 2002, tailgate light fault (since 2002 still no cure even with new sender), Oil sensor problem in 2004, tyre blow out (new Conti winter tyre), tyre bulging 2006 (Bridgstone B381). Of course service items like new tyres, brake discs and pads, oil service (longlife) are normal costs. Otherwise a beautiful car! 66mpg on fast autobahn drives, 95mpg when wife is driving! Now with CO2 such an issue she is one of very few cars to have ZERO road tax in the UK. I wish Audi would remake the 1.2 TDI with particle filter and reliable gearbox! Make only one reliable version. Call it the E2 or ECO 2 and sell with RHD in England. The UK buys most of the ECO cars from Japan and most of the Audi TTs. If Toyota can sell so many Prius cars then why not Audi! Please no more boring A5 Coupe or Q7 !!!! See: http://www.greenconsumerguide.com/audi_a2_tdi.php http://web.mac.com/ekranoplan/iWeb/ECO%20CARS/Photos.html www.nrfd.co.uk I wrote to Herr Winterkorn twice about the gearbox issue. Both times no positive reply - no fair trade. Shame. Can a normal 5 speed gearbox with manual clutch be fitted from a Polo or Lupo? Or maybe even get rid of the gangsteller and put in a manual clutch? -

Hi guys I would like to replace the rear shoes - here in the Uk there is not much back up for A2 and the dealer takes a very long time to get parts from Germany. I have tried SHU480 as you see in the photos they are for the 1.4TDI not 1.2 TDI - so too big! Just bought some SHU300 and will see if they fit. The Audi ones have lots of lightening holes in them! Also the material is fixed with rivets and on one side these are now exposed to the drums. MfG Lukas
