upgrade CCCU to remote keys

Hello

Two of my A2s were not build with remote keys.

I have now upgraded one of these cars to have remote keys by changing the S version CCCU (KSG ) to a newer AC version and made new keys.

But now I started thinking.

Does the older S version perhaps have the hw capability for remote keys?

Would it be possible e.g. by VCDS to change the settings and "connect" a set of older (without the D suffix) remote keys to it?

If so I could use it for my second car.

So my question is more or less if CCCUs can be reconfigured from non remote keys to remote keys, and in particular my S version.

BR

Joakim

If your car build by Audi without remote Keys, your CCCU doesn't have the required hardware inside.

Take a look at the cover of your CCCU. Can you see an official sign for radio (Funksymbol)?

Well I think it is simple try and error.
You have to configure the CCCU anyway for remote keys. If the CCCU accepts the coding, I would assume it is capable of doing so. I only have MK2 versions here with the newer keys, so I can’t test it.

As there is so far no concrete information that it is technically doomed I will try to do that and see, probably in the weekend.

In the meanwhile, please let me know if it has no potential to succeed. :D

Not sure which sign to look for.

I thought there was a radio symbol so that you could check whether radio was installed or not. But apparently this symbol doesn't exist. My fault.

If you habe VCDS you can check the measure blocks. Check Block 007.

First field shows, how many key will adopted

Second field show:

0: no key pressed

1: open

2: close

3: tailgate (Heckklappe)

Third field:

Example:

1100 : 2 Keys saved on 1. & 2. position

0: no key saved

1: key saved

I did a quick lunch check; in a car with its original M version and remote keys I could see a reaction in both the first and second field of block 007 when pressing the cars own keys BUT also when pressing another cars keys.

Just to confirm that the setup was able to detect also keys not matched to the car.

Good.

Next Step was to remove the M version and connect the S version.

And repeat .

Result: no reaction in block 007 at all when pressing the keys.

I guess this means the S version does not work with your keys, when you don't see any reaction in measurement block 7. As oyu tested with M it must react when you press a button on the key fob. Afterwards you can connect the key with the CCCU. No reaction most likely mean the CCCU does not work...

I don't know if you can flash a S to an M version. You may have to check if at least HW version is the same or higher.

I guess this means it does not look very promising.

Or is there still a possibility that a SW configuration would help?

It's means, that the required Hardware on the pcb is missing.

I had the same problem with my first A2 and just retofited this cheap remote Control from ebay like in the link to the car, what worked perfectly fine for me. Besides trunk  opening (wich also would be possible, but i didnt wire it)  everything worked like oem and it came with nice audi style fobs. Wiring was pretty easy, almost veverything is in the drivers door, just the turn indicators and the trunk have to be wired near the fuses.

Good input, I didnt know these things existed.

I think I have reached the end of trying to use my S version for remote keys so it is either these retrofit ones or finding a CCCU which do support it. Might put in a wanted ad. Thanks all for your help.
